Catching Fish

We were walking along Bishan Park and happened to coincidentally see a group of people casting their fishing net, catching fishes at the large canal!

I was so amazed by their catching skills and didn't expect to know that there are so many edible fishes to catch at the canal! We walked along the Bishan Park, to a place where there are steps down to the canal. Josh and Kate were adventurous enough to want to walk the stairs down by themselves!

Is it fish or fishes?

Both of them were so curious to see how the actual fishing was done! I, myself was also fascinated by it! Eve was at home taking care of Gwen when we were outdoors. Otherwise, she would also can get to see a glimpse of how fishing can be done at canals!

A fish being caught!

Josh and Kate were amazed that fish can be caught just like that from the canal and into the bucket. Poor little fish (opps)

Look at the red bucket! It's actually filled with fishes and I can't believe they are hiding underneath the seaweeds! Look at the different sizes of fish caught!

One of them showed us the fish up close and personal! He even showed me that the fish's mouth has eggs! It's just so amazing.

And he actually offered me a large fish to bring back! Of course I rejected! The reason being I do not know how to deal with the fish!

He told me how they cook these fishes!
1. They wash cleanly the fish, removing the organs.
2. Add salt and chilli powder on the fish.
3. Deep fry the fish.
4. Serve.

It's just so amazing that Singapore used to have many fishermen and now, very few of us actually does fishing. These people (didn't take photo of them, for privacy purpose) have the skill of fishing and honestly it's not easy to use their bare hands to catch the fish. Just take a look at the sharp fins on the fish. It will definitely poke someone who is a novice.

I'm just so glad that my children are able to get a glimpse of what fishing in a canal really is! Of course there is actual way of fishing via a rod, probably next time when they are older, we can bring them to go and see the real stuff!
