Third Hand Smoke
Eve has came across this term 'third hand smoke' and she told me the implications of this for humans, especially for children. This is so shocking.
All of us know about second hand smoke, which causes harm to the lungs for those passer-bys, and those who breathe cigarette smoke. However, smoking is more lethal than that. Third hand smoke actually means the tobacco remnants that settle down after floating in the air. This means it can land on anywhere!

EVERYWHERE!
Imagine our couch has those third hand smoke! And our children lie down on it, and the nose sniff into the couch cover. How terrible is that?
Moreover, children are even more susceptible to these, because we carry them, and they smell our clothings, we touch them with our hands etc. From this acquired knowledge, I just feel that one should not even think of smoking at all. It's really an irresponsible behaviour. Sorry to the smokers.
Myself
For me, I have sinus. And I'm really sensitive to smoke/smog, which will leave me to coughing or sneezing should I have direct contact with it. I understand the feeling of discomfort when these solid particles enter my nostrils. Some of my relatives are smokers and right now, I actually think twice to even let them come close to my children. This is very extreme, but it is true. Exposing my children to them at early age may mean detrimental health to them in the future, something that we parents have to bear. Why take such risks?
Our children are so young and their heartbeat is faster than us, they breathe faster than us! And I do not want them to expose them to it. Smoking really doesn't benefit anyone at all (or does it?)
Pregnancy
Recently I have attended a talk on pregnancy and one should not even smoke at all. The cigarette smoke actually will cause the blood vessels of the unborn child to narrow, causing it to have lower amount of oxygen into the whole body, especially the brain! And it may cause smaller growth for the child. This is quite scary because I feel that the unborn child didn't even have the right to choose the environment, and sadly, have to inhale the cigarette smoke (should either spouse is a smoker), or the environment has someone smoking in the house.
Even more drastic, the baby may even have under-developed organs such as a hole in the heart. Why do we want to expose such risks for other babies and our baby? As long as we come in contact with cigarette smoke, there is a risk from second hand smoke and third hand smoke. How nice if we have a smoke-free environment in Singapore.
I feel that there should be even more awareness about this third hand smoke. And nowadays, sadly, I can see that more and more people are puffing everywhere. And some are even students. Why can't they just eat the cigarettes instead? Isn't it crispy?
You may Google to read up more on it.
