Grandparents: Will you become one someday?

Lately there have been news about parenthood in Singapore. People are commenting about it. And I feel that it's just the short term goal. We should aim to becoming grandparents, isn't it? Probably next time there will be grandparents bonus scheme!

I feel that as we age and progress to parents, the success is somewhat measured by how well their children has grown and their careers. It's like their fruits of labour have bloomed. I feel it's quite a passé to measure the success by the degrees their children have. In today's society, you do not really require a degree to earn big bucks. There is no correlation at all.

And also when we become grandparents, looking at your grandchildren is really an amazing feeling. It's like you have contributed a portion of your DNA to the grandchild. For me, both my paternal and maternal grandparents have already passed on. And only have Eve's grandmother to become my grandmother. She is indeed a successful testimony for all of us.

This 2013, she will be having 4 great grandchildren added into her clan. Ain't this amazing? Currently she is 80, and she has close to 8 great grandchildren. Soon 12! This is really building an empire of her own! She is really amazing and all these are possible because she worked hard in the early years to nurture 7 of her children.

From her 7 children, she has 15 grandchildren. And soon she will be having 12 great grandchildren! What an exponential graph it will be in the future! I believe that this is what success should be. She set a good example in the past to cook, to wash, to let her children know that she puts her family first. Until today, the family's relationship is well-knitted, meeting up regularly during festivals, birthdays and other special occasions!

I do not want to have a lot of children and at the end of the day, none are close to me. That's like just so wrong. The early years of nurturing a child is like sowing a seed in them, and the love and care will resonate within them. In time to come, when they're parents, hopefully they will also do the same or even better nurturing.

Eve's grandmother is certainly the champion in our society. And I certainly would want to follow the path she is leading and of course 7 children is a bit too much.. We will see how it goes! One step at a time.

Currently for me, career is indeed important. Nurturing my child is also important. I do not want to compromise both. Hence Eve and I have to be working close together to make this happen. Otherwise, it won't be possible. I actually want to thank God honestly to let him know of all these wisdom imparted to us, gave us the confirmation and green light to go to this career, marriage, our house, Josh, Kate and now our little one. Truly all these are moved with the strength of God. We will make this work! Ah-ma! You are the living testimony. :)

Happy picture of  Josh and Kate
