Taiwan Part One

Pre Planning

Traveling with children is certainly impossible without a good planning and packing by Eve. For the past few days in Singapore, my children have been 'locked up' at home due to the quality of air due to the haze. We didn't see much of improvement on Saturday and decided that morning that I bring them overseas for a break. And Eve managed to book and plan the air tickets, hotel rooms and train rides to Taipei and Hua Lian within 3 hours! Really proud of her and something that I am unable to do it by my own. She spoke in Chinese, searched via TripAdvisor, availability of the train tickets from Chinese website! Hats off! Tip of the day: Marry a lady who is good in Chinese if you know yours is not good.

Initially I wanted to go by my own with the children, but Eve feels that I am unable to cope by my own. Hence we also got her mum to help us!

It's the first time we travel without Eve because our baby is due soon. So I will blog about this 5 day Taiwan Trip. Hence, with this sudden trip, it will be the 4th trip of the year, whereby our children went for this 2013. First was Taiwan and Krabi, then Tioman and Taiwan again!

Skype
We managed to use Skype for the first time in our lives and it's really such an amazing app! With Taiwan's telco 大哥大, I managed to have unlimited access of wifi and we can video chat 'live'! Even our children talk to Eve, as they miss them in Taipei.

Skype really brings no boundaries to people and we really felt we are in the long distance relationship already after being in Taipei for mere 7 hours.

The heart warming thing is that Josh asked how's the baby? And Eve showed us the stomach and all of us said, "Hello" to her! So touching right?

Taipei's food
We went to 无名子,文华小吃店 again (first time was in January 2013) to have a delicious porridge dinner, with a wide array of ala carte dishes to choose from. We ordered three plates of fresh fried vegetables, and they are so yummy!

It is a 50 minute cab ride from Taoyuan International Airport, and it's near our hotel that we are staying in.

Address is 复兴南路二段130-1号.

Their home grown speciality vegetable of purple spinach. Lightly salted and fried with ginger slices. Yum!

Josh cleaning up the table for the porridge spilled it. The bowls provided are like kid sized, and you will tend to keep refilling the bowls for the porridge.

Happy faces and just 4 of us we have fried egg, duck blood 鸭血, tougan, cod fish, 3 plates of vegetables and their sweet potato porridge 地瓜粥. Josh doing his kawaii look.

The way they cut their cod fish is so different compared to Singapore's. And it's so delicious and affordable! This big piece is only S$8 (NT$210). And in Singapore, it will cost about $15-$20 to get this outside. Very healthy and both children are a lot. Josh managed to dish out the bone! Ha.

Kate kept pointing to the elephant on the table!

And all of us were so full and happy after the meal.

Hotel
We stayed at Ambience Hotel Taipei and their whole architecture of the rooms is amazing! Well maximizing of the space, something I feel a house should be.

This hotel won the TripAdvisor 2012 and 2013 award! It's really amazing. And the price is about $120-$150 a night. We have ordered an extra bed for myself though.

This window pane makes the whole room bigger and the view is just like Marina Bay Sands, clear scenery view. Even though it's just the road, it's still something different to look at.

The bathtub is well liked by my children, with one thinking that he is the cleaner cleaning the tub, and another one cooking the water with her toy. So funny! And it's the first time that my children AUTOMATICALLY said they want to bathe and took of their clothes happily to bathe! Thanks.

The sink area is well designed and I like the way the mirror is placed, and the height extending to the ceiling makes the toilet feeling relaxed.

Initially I can't find the wardrobe, but it's just beside the toilet. They have designed the whole place so well and maximized the space. Love it so much.

I used the spray facility in the toilet bowl and surprisingly, it works very well! Lol... It manages to clean my a**hole. Initially I was quite skeptical about it, whether it will spray out of the boundary or make a mess out of it. However, why bother to have bad thoughts? I tried and it was so relieving!

The toilet has this toilet paper stand, something I feel should have in the toilet. It's much more movable and maybe it suits right or left handed people? Lol. They have the toilet spray, however I didn't dare to try it!

The view from the window. Very few trees can be seen in Taipei and probably due to the high density of roads and buildings. For a more scenic and natural look, Hua Lian is a better option to go to.

My children slept at 1230am due to the excitement of the new place, new bed, new scenery. And I'm proud that Kate used only one diaper (for night sleeping) today throughout our trip from Singapore to Taipei till night time. So happy about it!
