Large Families in Singapore
I love to read articles whereby how Singaporeans can raise a large family. In the old days, our grandparents can easily give birth to 8-9 children and that's a norm! Cost of living is low then? I'm not really sure but what I know is they are usually well-knitted and they ate lots of home cooked food!
Anyway, there are some well-known Singaporeans who have more than 3 children and their families are very happy and successful. They are namely
1. Fandi Ahmad and Wendy Jacobs
2. Darren Lim and Evelyn Tan
Fandi Ahmad's Family
What amazes me is that they have 5 children! Their age are 15, 13, 12, 10 and 6. And all of them look so good! Two elder sons represent well in sports in their school and their eldest daughter is an excellent sprinter! I'll be so proud of my children if they are successful in the field they like, isn't it?
And somehow both Fandi and Wendy are managing their careers well. I guess it's the love for each other and the children that keeps the bonding of the children very strong. Fandi, definitely plays a major role to inspire their children to do the best in whatever they do! The good fact is both parents let their children pursue what they are interested, no forced-liking imposed to meet what parents want their children to do. It's very good!
Wendy's supporting role and and a mother is indeed amazing as she manages a lot of 'back end' stuffs like chauffeuring children to and for schools, financial expenses, despite herself recovering from her unknown illness. I really hope she will recover fully soon!
The two's dedication made their children loving to their parents and amongst themselves! Really commendable!
Darren Lim and Evelyn Tan
They have 3 and soon 4 children! And what is amazing is that they are not living in an apartment currently. They stay in a yacht! How amazing! They really downsized so much from a 5000 sq feet apartment to now a mere 300 sq feet!
They are a few in Singapore who have their addresses in the sea! So cool. The Lim family enjoys freedom lifestyle and love to wake up at different views every morning!
And they are pro home schooling. This is one thing that we feel we want to explore about too.
Eve personally spoke on the telephone with Evelyn about homeschooling before and she openly shares about it! Such an amazing lady. Their family vision is very strong and they are willing to step out and God blesses them all these years.
Strong and close knitted family and loving parents! Kudos to them! They are below 40s, and it's really a good testaments for married couples!
What both families have in common?
1. I would say that they both have a supporting wife! And their endless love they give to the children are priceless!
2. Good Command of English. I feel both parents speak very well and their children will have a good base of language spoken at home. Wendy is a host, both Darren and Evelyn speaks fluent English and Mandarin! This makes us even want to take note of how we speak at home.
3. After reading their stories, I will feel that having more children somewhat makes the whole household much more fun. More time is required in the early years definitely, however in the long run, it's all worth it. I'm not sure what's their reason for having so many children but what I know for sure is both parents love their children and vice versa. This is success in life!
